Chapter 7

Scorpio: Reopening the Wounds

I was happy that Amy was here now, but a part of me also felt a little bit guilty.

I didn’t want to make her feel bad or anything, but I also didn’t know if I was ready for it.

It wasn’t her; it was totally me.

But since I was well on my way to healed, Amy wasn’t around the clubhouse as often, and I could feel my heart wrenching slightly.

I wanted to tell her. I wanted to so badly. I wanted to let her in.

And yet, there was something stopping me, something that told me I wasn’t ready. Not yet.

Whenever I saw her helping the girls while I was on guard duty, I always felt a little bit guilty. Like I wanted to tell her these feelings, but I feared what may come about as a result of it all.

I knew that there was nothing else that I could do really, and it was definitely not easy.

Over the next couple of weeks, I noticed Amy hanging around more and more at the strip club. I wondered if she ended up changing her schedule at the hospital, but I didn’t want to ask because I didn’t want to be that guy. However, the next time I saw her at our clubhouse, I said hi, and she waved back.

“How are things?” I said.

“Good. What are you up to?”

I pointed over to the doorway. “Midas wants to have a quick chat about the whole mess that happened.”

“Oh, gotcha. I hope it goes okay.”

“Yeah. Anyway… I’ll be seeing you.” It was so hard to say anything normal to her because every time I did, regret washed over me.

As I stepped into the meeting room, I noticed that Midas looked a bit torn up.

“Something the matter?” I asked him.

“Oh, no, it’s nothing. Just been really frustrated with this Mason ordeal. It’s been almost two weeks since I tried to get a hold of the sheriff’s office, and they’re being the biggest shits about this whole thing. I swear if I didn’t know any better I would assume that they were doing something else with him,” he said.

I didn’t want to think about that. “Well sir, let’s just see what else happens, you know?”

“Oh yeah. I’ll be keeping everyone posted. Just not a ton is happening at the moment because the sheriff’s office is so goddamn stubborn,” he told me.

I could see how frustrated he was and I didn’t blame him.

“Well, I’ll be getting to guard duty,” I said.

“Thanks, Scorpio. You’re kind of the only one besides Alex who isn’t trying to start some shit. I don’t know what Digger is up to but he’s been a dick about this whole thing, saying that it’s wrong and he’s about to take all the matters into his own hands. Which I hope he does not.”

I couldn’t help but agree with Midas. That was the last thing that we all needed.

“You’re right, sir. Well, I hope things get better.”

“How’s your hand by the way?”

I showed him.
